I wasn’t even aware of Vanderbilt’s Rites of Spring, a weekend-long music festival taking place this weekend, April 15 – 16, 2011, until a friend posted up a link to an article about what to wear to the fest. The concert features performances by The National, Kid Cudi, Public Enemy, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Sara Bareilles, Matt and Kim, Jerrod Neimann, The Features, Pimps of Joytime, Madi Diaz, David Mayfield Parade, Futurebirds, and Young Jesus. And if you’re not sure what to wear to Rites of Spring, tips, in true Vandy fashion (no pun intended), can be found here.
Lisa Birnbach, in her book, “The Official Preppy Handbook,” suggests a bohemian-preppy look, “pairing a flowy, IKat-patterned dress with cowboy boots or donning a favorite pair of denim shorts with a peasant blouse and trusty Jack Rogers sandals” (Sessoms, 2011, p. 1). Guys are suggested to wear colored t-shirts with khaki shorts and Chaco sandals. And “to rock a more trendy look, try pairing a plaid button down with a pair of chinos that have been cuffed at the ankle and loafers” (Sessoms, 2011, p. 1).
THIS is why you don't wear those stupid sandals to a festival.
I dunno guys… there’s just something about these tips that kinda make me want to gag. Just a little.
