Betsey Johnson Nashville Store Closing

According to their Facebook page, Betsey Johnson, located in Green Hills Mall, will be closing its doors November 30, 2010. Reasons for the store closing are not given, but typically retailers close up shop due to financial reasons (i.e. not earning a high enough profit margin) and lease restrictions. Although the store is planning to close for good, employees of the highly coveted fashion designer are launching an all-out “Keep Betsey Johnson in Nashville” campaign. Here is the information as detailed on their Facebook page:

I love Betsey Johnson. She is truly an original designer with a quirky, girly, and rock-and-roll point of view. According to WGSN, BJ sold control of her company to a private equity group earlier this August. The group, Castanea Partners, planned to open 12 stores annually, as well as expand wholesale operations, licensing deals and the brand’s geographical penetration.
Now, if BJ is planning on expanding its current 51-store retailer operation, why is the Nashville store closing? Not sure, but there may still be time to save it.

Here are highlights from Betsey Johnson's New York Autumn/Winter 2010/11 show. All photos from WGSN.
