The first moments of MTV's 2011 VMAs were such a drag, but we mean that in a good way! Lady Gaga opened the show in true gender-bending fashion, appearing as her Jo Calderone persona. Working a greasy pompadour, dirty white tee shirt, black slacks and a black sportcoat, she pulled off her transgender transformation perfectly. With cigarette in hand, smoke billowing from her nose and mouth, Gaga gave a dramatic monologue about herself from Joe's point of view.

"When she [Gaga] gets on that stage, she holds nothing back. And when she comes, its like she covers her face because she doesn't want me to see. It's like she can't stand to have one honest moment where nobody's watching. I want her to be real. But she says Joe, I'm not real. I'm theater. And you and I, this is just rehearsal."
Lady Gaga, aka Joe C., then sank her teeth into her latest single, "You and I". She began on the piano before breaking into a dance routine mid-way through the song. Country twang was alive and well on the 2011 VMAs stage tonight, with some Gaga stank on it and an assist from guitarist Brian May.
By the end of Lady Gaga's "You and I" performance, Gaga as Jo Calderone was atop the piano, making a mess with some beer and rocking out, thoroughly enjoying her dragged-out self. That is, until she fell off said piano! Oops. We hope she's feeling alright!

Beyoncé set Twitter on fire when she hinted on the VMA black carpet that she was set to make a big announcement, placing a hand on her stomach. Speculation turned into overwhelming joy when the pop superstar announced her pregnancy at the end of her "Love on Top" performance by unbuttoning her sparkling blazer and rubbing her noticeable bump.Bey's public announcement came as a bit of a surprise, given that the songstress usually gets media-shy when asked anything about her personal life during interviews. MTV News reached out to pop-culture expert Rob Shuter, columnist for HuffPost Celebrity, for his thoughts on how she revealed the big news. "I thought it was so brilliant that somebody as private as Beyoncé and Jay-Z would make their own rules to address the fact that she's clearly pregnant," he said.Shuter explained that the power couple's private nature made the revelation all the more joyous. "I love that this couple who has made it a policy to not talk about their personal life would once again do that, let us in on this huge secret, without ever really uttering any words.

Lady Gaga took home the VMA's best dressed and worst dressed looks, often in the same outfit. The reigning queen of outre chic did not disappoint, with multiple outfit changes, including a full-on face mask of red lace, tightie whities, feathers, headgear, and the must-have accessory of the season, a bejeweled crutch.
Lady Gaga, who won best new artist at the awards ceremony Sunday (and dedicated the win to "God and the gays"), also poked fun at her image, arriving at the show with Kermit the Frog, a nod at her July appearance on German television wearing a top made of Kermit stuffed animals.
Though Kermit stayed inside the limo, Lady Gaga gave him a kiss. "He's been a really good date," she says. "It's our first date, but we've been eyeing each other for a while."

Filming on Beyoncé's new movie A Star Is Born has had to be pushed back after the singer revealed she is expecting her first child.
Clint Eastwood's musical remake had been due to start shooting in February 2012, but insiders on the film told Deadline Hollywood that Warner Bros 'could push' the start date on the film.
It is also claimed the delay to the start of shooting will give them longer to find a suitable leading man after Eastwood failed to convince Leonardo DiCaprio to sign on.

Plastic surgery was the favorite topic in today’s press conference



A press conference with the Miss Universe contestants happened this morning at the hotel they are staying at, in Sao Paulo. Plastic surgery was the main topic and the most asked question by journalists was, “Have you had any cosmetic surgery to participate in the pageant?”.



After saying that “Brazilians are very friendly and that she had had some intense preparation to participate in Miss Universe, Miss Curaçao did not want to answer if she’s gone through cosmetic surgery. “It’s my little secret”, she stated.



Miss Argentina mentioned that she had a breast implant years before knowing she was going to compete in a beauty pageant. The same talk was shared by Miss Venezuela. Vanessa Gonçalves, today 25, said she had her breast size enhanced when she was 19, and after that, has never gone through plastic surgery again in her life.



Miss France explained that in her country plastic surgeries are not allowed among girls who participate in the French national pageant. “In France, natural beauty is appreciated. I am 100% real!”, she said with sense of humor.







Scherri-lee Biggs, Miss Australia, 21, commented: “Everything is also natural here. I am too young to have a plastic surgery”. The Australian stunner also mentioned she loves the Brazilian bikinis.



About preparing for the pageant, most delegates said they had English classes and learned how to behave in front of the judges.



Miss China, for instance, took all kinds of classes, including intensive English, in the United States. Miss Costa Rica, went even further: she studied Portuguese for two months, and has been able to communicate really well with Brazilians in the local language.



Miss Philippines took Portuguese and samba classes before traveling to Brazil, and when asked if she could say a few words, she answered: “Um pouco”, which means, “a little”.



Miss Angola, Leila Lopes, visited Brazil 5 times in her process of preparation. She said Brazil as a lot of influence on the Angolan culture nowadays, and that she is a big fan of the Brazilian soap operas.



Miss Colombia told journalists she is impressed with how big and great São Paulo is: “I fell like being at home”. Catalina Robayo also did not hesitate in saying that she believes she should be the winner: “Of all 89 candidates, I am the most complete one”.
